The French-German WE-Heraeus Seminar on “Fluorescence markers for advanced microscopy” (March 15–20, 2026, Les Houches) offers something rare: not just presentations, but a true learning environment for anyone who wants to understand fluorescence microscopy at its core.
This seminar is designed for those who want (or need) the full picture — from fluorophores and their molecular behavior to photochemistry, labeling strategies, and practical applications in biological projects. Rather than treating these aspects separately, the seminar unravels how they are tightly connected — and how they ultimately determine data quality, interpretation, and experimental success.

Researchers from the IfMB contributed actively to the event. Ph.D. students Anjali Kumari and Carolina Meriño Serrano presented their work in the poster sessions. Prof. Dr. Ulrike Endesfelder, co-organizer of the seminar, contributed both a lecture on designing precise and reliable fluorescence experiments and a poster presenting work from her group.

All lectures are now freely available online, making this comprehensive introduction and advanced training accessible well beyond the participants on site. More information can also be found on the official websites of the seminar, the physics school of Les Houches and the Heraeus foundation.
